XFL Recap: Brahmas Edge Out Renegades in Defensive Battle 15 – 9

In a closely contested matchup, the San Antonio Brahmas managed to secure a 15-9 victory over the Arlington Renegades, improving their record to 2-4, while the Renegades fell to an even 3-3. The hard-fought game was characterized by defensive prowess from both teams, limiting the offensive output on both sides.

The first half saw the Brahmas gain a 9-0 lead, courtesy of kicker John Parker Romo’s 3-for-3 field goal performance, including a 56-yarder. The Renegades answered back in the third quarter with a touchdown pass from Drew Plitt to Lujuan Winningham and a 53-yard field goal from Taylor Russolino, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Brahmas’ early advantage.

Both teams struggled to generate significant yardage in the air, with San Antonio’s Jawon Pass and Kurt Benkert combining for a mere 51 yards on 9 completions, while Arlington’s Drew Plitt and Kyle Sloter managed a more respectable 170 yards. However, the Brahmas’ rushing attack proved to be more effective, accumulating 111 yards on 24 carries compared to the Renegades’ 79 yards on 25 carries.

San Antonio’s Jacques Patrick led the Brahmas’ ground game with 82 yards on 15 carries, while De’Veon Smith paced the Renegades with 42 yards on 10 carries. In the receiving department, Landen Akers and T.J. Vasher emerged as the Brahmas’ top targets, while De’Veon Smith and JaVonta Payton stood out for the Renegades.

The defensive units were the true stars of the game, with both teams combining for five sacks, three interceptions, and two forced fumbles. San Antonio’s Jordan Williams led all players with 14 total tackles, while Donald Payne contributed 10 tackles and an interception for the Renegades.

In the special teams department, Terrell Bonds shined for the Brahmas, returning six punts for 44 yards. On the Renegades’ side, Joe Powell and Rannell Hall combined for 44 yards on punt returns.

The San Antonio Brahmas will look to build on this victory, while the Arlington Renegades will regroup and seek to bounce back in their upcoming games.
