Renegades Dominate the Roughnecks 26-11 in Front of 13,568 Fans at TDECU Stadium

The Arlington Renegades have clinched a spot in the XFL Championship Game after a commanding 26-11 victory over the Houston Roughnecks at TDECU Stadium. The Renegades will now head to the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, to compete for the title on Saturday, May 13 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Arlington’s offense proved unstoppable, led by quarterback Luis Perez, who completed 19 out of 27 passes for a total of 289 yards and three touchdowns. JaVonta Payton was a standout on the receiving end, catching five passes for a total of 121 yards and two touchdowns.

The Renegades’ rushing attack was also formidable, with De’Veon Smith leading the charge with 94 yards on 24 carries. In total, the Renegades gained 137 rushing yards.

The Roughnecks struggled offensively, with starting quarterback Cole McDonald completing only 9 of 25 passes for 82 yards and an interception. His counterpart, Brandon Silvers, was benched after going 3-for-6 for 22 yards. Houston’s running game fared slightly better, as Max Borghi and Cole McDonald combined for 95 rushing yards.

The Renegades defense was relentless, registering three sacks and five tackles for a loss. De’Vante Bausby picked off Cole McDonald to further stifle the Roughnecks’ passing game.

Houston’s defense had some bright spots, with Emmanuel Ellerbee leading the team with 10 tackles and two tackles for loss, while John Daka recorded the Roughnecks’ only sack of the game.

In the kicking game, Arlington’s Taylor Russolino was perfect, converting both of his field goal attempts. Houston kicker Austin Jones also made his lone field goal try.

With their ticket punched to the XFL Championship Game, the Arlington Renegades will look to cap off their Cinderella story with a championship victory.

This was a great game. I expected the Ruffnecks to win but Arlington in my opinion played their best game to date. Can’t wait for the Championship game next week
