The San Antonio Brahmas hoped to have landed a gem when they selected Reggie Corbin in the XFL Supplemental Draft. However, they won’t get to see him in their uniform.
Corbin will return to the USFL’s Michigan Panthers, as he confirmed on Twitter. Corbin played with the Panthers in 2022 as they played to a 2-8 record in the league’s first year.
Despite the less-than-ideal record, Corbin was a prominent bright spot. His 519 yards were fourth among USFL running backs, and he did it on less than 100 carries. He led the league in average yards per game with 64.9.
Following the season, the 26-year-old received All-USFL honors. Overall, it was a very promising season for a running back who hadn’t received a true shot in professional football before.
Corbin spent some time with the BC Lions of the CFL and received a tryout with the Seattle Seahawks. However, he never received a legitimate chance to shine with either team.
Corbin played his college ball at Illinois. He played 44 games, starting 22 of them. The 26-year-old rushed for 2381 yards in his collegiate career and finished with the second highest yards per carry average among 2000+ yard rushers in school history.
The Brahmas hoped to have Corbin in the mix in 2023. Now, it seems likely that Jacques Patrick receives the lion’s share of the carries out of the backfield. In fact, Patrick began his professional football career with the XFL, suiting up for the Tampa Bay Vipers in 2020.
San Antonio kicks off their season on February 19th. They will play host to the St. Louis BattleHawks in a game that will be broadcast nationally on ABC.
