Is It Time Seattle Dragons Move On From Brandon Silvers?

Playing in front of the home crowd at Century Link Field for the second straight week, the Seattle Dragons suffered their second loss of the season to Landry Jones and the Dallas Renegades.

The Dragons now sit at 1-2, placing 3rd in the XFL West division behind the Houston Roughnecks (3-0) and the Dallas Renegades (2-1). Brandon Silvers went 21-34 on the day with 204 passing yards, throwing for 2 touchdowns and 1 interception with a passer rating of 85.9.

Silvers started the game looking comfortable in the pocket and throwing the ball with courage as he led his team to a quick 6-0 lead with 7:16 left in the first. In the second quarter, Silvers was picked off by Dallas after failing to put the ball in the hands of his targeted receiver, Alonzo Moore.

Silvers was able to make up such a mistake by marching down the field with under three minutes to play in the half and throwing a 19-yard touchdown pass to running back, Kenneth Farrow II. The second half was a no show for the Silvers-led offense, as they failed to put up a single point.

Brandon Silvers reflecting on Week 3’s performance

In three games, Brandon Silvers has thrown for 512 passing yards with 6 TDs and 4 INTs. Although XFL fans have seen quarterbacks struggling worse than Silvers has, it is inevitable the Seattle Dragons fanbase has grown frustrated with the offense’s recent struggles.

Chanting “B.J” for quarterback B.J Daniels repeatedly throughout this week and last week’s games in Century Link Field shows that the fans are ready to move on from the lackluster performances of Silvers. The lack of mobility in the pocket, the poor decision-making, and inaccuracy of his throws are all valid reasons in considering a change of leadership on the offensive end for the Seattle Dragons.

Now playing in the XFL at the age of 30, B.J Daniels awaits his opportunity for the Dragons.

B.J Daniels is a Seattle fan-favorite amongst the Dragons fanbase due to his stint as a backup quarterback with the Seattle Seahawks from 2013-2015. Daniels is best known for his mobility on the field who ran a 4.63 40-yard dash at the South Florida Pro Combine.

Although he lacks a resume from the NFL (only completing one pass for seven yards), his set of skills and talent should not go unacknowledged. Such style of play is necessary especially in the XFL, where the game is much more fast-paced.

Additionally, going with the west-coast quarterback is nothing too out of the picture as Brandon Silvers has grown to be one of the team’s biggest liability. We’ve seen a mobile quarterback such as XFL MVP candidate, P.J Walker, succeed in the early weeks, so taking a chance on Daniels is something Jim Zorn and his coaching staff should consider discussing as they prep for next week’s match up @ St. Louis as they face the BattleHawks.

    We Need This Change!!
Mr. Silvers needs a break and Our Dragons just need a new breath of fresh air. I’m not going to 100% blame the QB, but it really is mostly his fault; (some go to our HC Zorn too!) but that aside, Yes Give QB Daniels his shot at the limelight!! St. Louis is a Tough Team and traveling there compounds it too. We’re still in it but if we don’t win this weekend & QB Daniels isn’t our starter, We Must Change Out Silvers at QB! #GoDragons

I’m surprised people are shocked at poor QB play in the league’s first season. Next season I believe we will see a dramatic rise in the level of play. The teams will have access to college guys who just didmt make the cut for the NFL. I personally hope that The Dragons make a run at Utah QB Tyler Huntley. He is a massive upgrade in the intangibles department and it would be awesome to get a jersey with Huntley on the back!
