Breaking: XFL Suspends Day to Day Operations, Lays Off Employees

It’s sad to see, but it looks like the XFL is battening down the hatches. The Football Startup has terminated everyone on their payrolls, likely in an attempt to preserve capital for the 2021 season.

The League’s day to day operations are suspended, and while they’re committed to making 2021 happen, we’re not sure when they will be ramping back up. For Vince McMahon and Oliver Luck the highest priority is obviously keeping the XFL brand afloat.

This comes just a day after the League has announced it will be refunding all 2021 season tickets, and it appears that the XFL is consolidating and hunkering down for a long offseason.

Our thoughts go out to all the individuals who’ve worked so hard to make the XFL happen, but from a business standpoint the league needs to make sure it survives until next spring.

With all 2020 sports including spring, summer and fall leagues up in the air it only follows that the XFL is hedging its bets, but the distinct possibility of a prolonged shutdown could make us the first sports back in the game in 2021.

The CFL has also announced it is canceling their 2020 football season.

Leagues done. Again the writers on this site are attempting to sugar coat what is going on. The league had dwindling interest during the few weeks it was on and there was no way it would have been financially feasible for it to try a second season.

Like it or not. There just isn’t all that great of a market for spring football (at least not at the level that the people running these upstart leagues want).

“Dwindling interest” – that’s why they were planning on opening the second level at the next scheduled St Louis game, because interest was dwindling? And considering Vince McMahon has funded the league for three seasons, your assessment that it would not have been financially feasible to try a second season is uninformed at best.

They’re probably debating whether to have a 2021 season because of the uncertainty about when this will be over and whether it will ramp up again next year. If they don’t have a 2021 season it will probably be very difficult to return in 2022, but none of this has anything to do with how it was performing this year.

Wow, you completely left out the fact the league had to stop play because a certain virus that’s grinded the entire country to a halt.
