Two WWE Attitude Era Stars Nearly Tried Out For XFL

Former WWE & ECW Superstar Stevie Richards was recently interviewed by Gary Cassidy of Sportkeeda.com on a number of topics during Episode 8 of Dropkick DiSKussions. During the interview, Stevie Richards revealed the fact that he and fellow former WWE Superstar Gene Snitsky was, at one point, nearly transitioning their way to the XFL.

This is what Stevie Richards said:

“I’ll tell you another little fun fact. Gene Snitsky and myself… You know Gene Snitsky, the one that kicked the baby? He and myself were considering trying out for XFL teams. He was a former lineman, a lineman or a linebacker, one of the big trench guys. I was going to try out for field goal kicker because, back in high school, I was a field goal kicker, so I felt like it may be a cool thing to try out for. There was no team locally here for me to try out for so I didn’t end up doing it.”

Stevie Richards also spoke to Gary Cassidy on a few other topics, which you can check out in the highlights below:

On the prospect of success for the XFL and their current standing:

“I think they were a year or two late because, last year, NFL were wavering in their popularity and XFL didn’t really capitalize on calling them out for the Kaepernick stuff, or the pass interference play. They didn’t really try to get on the NFL radar. In fact, I think they were trying to be a feeder league for the NFL, which has not been successful.”

“The AAF, the Alliance of American Football, tried to do that – they’re done. The XFL will survive, I believe, maybe one season and that’s about it, because the NFL has it locked down.”

“It’s pretty much like everybody else with WWE. WWE, for whatever criticism you have of their product, they are the ones that you always equate with professional wrestling, and I don’t think that’s going to change any time soon.”

I don’t agree with his observations about the xfl. The xfl is not competing with the NFL. The xfl is a spring leauge and is in no way competing with the NFL because the NFL season is over when the XFL season starts.

I just got the email from the Rouggnecks last night that season tickets are about to go on sale. I cant wait!

The XFL has not been slagging the NFL or Kap because they still have fans that the XFL would like to include and they don’t want to offend anyone. It’s just good business sense. Vince will be happy to take anyone’s money without prejudice

Stevie Richards doing any versions of his ECW-style promos (“Dancin’ Stevie”, bWo Stevie, Public Enemy Stevie, or even Baron Von Stevie) would have been hysterical had he become a placekicker in the XFL! His mike work was terrific and could have balanced out the promo skills of Rod Smart – aka “He Hate Me”!
