A Guide to the Best Quarterbacks in the NFL This Season

The 2022-23 NFL season is well underway, and once again the league’s best quarterbacks are demonstrating their phenomenal skills. Although NFL ticket prices can be steep, it’s worth splashing out to see these spectacular athletes guide their teams to victory. Websites like Koobit.com display a range of ticket providers and their fees, so you can find the ticket that suits your budget.

Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

College: Texas Tech

Hometown: Tyler, Texas

Mahomes is an undisputed star. His Chiefs team is top of the division and on track to go deep in the playoffs, and the QB himself might get 50 touchdowns over the course of the season. Mahomes may also break the NFL’s passing yardage record for a single season, if he can maintain his incredible form over the coming months. Consistency has been a struggle for a number of the league’s best quarterbacks this year, but Mahomes can be counted on to show up whenever the Chiefs really need him. At 27, he’s not a kid anymore, but there are surely many great years to come for this top QB.

Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles

College: Alabama / Oklahoma

Hometown: Houston, Texas

Jalen Hurts was selected by the Eagles in the second round of the 2020 draft, and it’s looking like the Birds struck gold with this young sensation from Houston. An alumnus of both Alabama and Oklahoma, Hurts came second in the Heisman voting when Joe Burrow won the award in 2019. His arm is outrageously powerful and his long distribution is matched by top-class running abilities, so he can find a way through most defences. Still just 24, Hurts became the first QB to lead the Eagles to an 8-0 record when his team beat the Texans earlier this season.

Tuo Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins

College: Alabama

Hometown: Ewa Beach, Hawai’i

He’s had his doubters, and no doubt people will continue to look for flaws in his game, but Tagovailoa is enjoying a period of such great form that even the toughest critics must acknowledge his talent. He is clearly helped by the presence of some of the league’s finest wide receivers in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, but the Dolphins QB looks more confident than ever and will surely be in contention for MVP if he keeps this standard up and stays healthy.

Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

College: Reedley / Wyoming

Hometown: Firebaugh, California

Allen has had some difficult games this year, and he has been the first to admit when his performances haven’t quite reached his extremely lofty standards. Sometimes guilty of taking unnecessary risks, the Bills QB can throw himself out of trouble more often than not. He has one of the most powerful arms in the business, and his running game is among the finest as well. The hero of Buffalo might not have found his every top form in every game so far, but when he’s flying high, few can get near him.

Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks

College: West Virginia

Hometown: Miami, Florida

At 32 years old, Geno Smith is something of an outlier on this list, but the Seahawks QB has been a truly pleasant surprise this season. Picked in the second round of the 2013 draft, Smith has not always looked likely to live up to his early promise. Since 2019, he has plied his trade in Seattle, spending his first several years in the Pacific Northwest as Russell Wilson’s backup. That set-up meant Smith rarely saw the field, but after Wilson’s injury in 2021 and subsequent departure from the Seahawks, the man from Miami has stepped up big time. A popular shout for Comeback Player of the Year, Geno Smith is leading a potent offence and showing why hopes were so high when he made it to the NFL in 2013.

Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals

College: Ohio State / LSU

Hometown: Ames, Iowa

The Bengals offense has not always thrived this season, but Burrow is good enough to step up even when the rest of his team is missing the mark. An injury to Ja’Marr Chase, one of the very best receivers in the game, has made life more difficult for the former LSU quarterback, but his accuracy is still among the top few in the league. The Bengals finished runners up in the most recent Super Bowl, but they look unlikely even to make the playoffs this season. If they miss out, though, it won’t be because Burrow let the team down. On the contrary, he has shown once more that he is among the finest QBs in the game.

Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

College: Louisville

Hometown: Pompano Beach, Florida

This Heisman winner is a nightmare for defences, boasting the strongest running skills of any league quarterback. He’s a playmaker, regularly making up for the high number of interceptions he throws with an uncanny ability to create incredible plays out of almost nothing. He has kept the Ravens offence ticking, and should his team make the playoffs, the fans in Baltimore will owe a huge debt of gratitude to Lamar Jackson.

Tom Brady, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

College: Michigan

Hometown: San Mateo, California

Brady needs little introduction. One of the most familiar faces in American sports, he is a 7-time Super Bowl champion and 5-time Super Bowl MVP, holder of almost every NFL quarterback record, and continues to shine on the highest stage at 45 years old. Brady spent 18 seasons as a starter for the New England Patriots before moving to Tampa Bay in 2020, and despite a momentary retirement, he is showing this season that his arm and his accuracy can still make him almost unplayable.
